SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Construction continues at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York, where families stay at no charge while their child receives hospital care. But the organization needs your help to meet its fundraising goal.

The Ronald McDonald House of Central New York announced last fall it would be expanding its fourth floor. Construction for the $1.1 million expansion project has been underway for several months.

A simple task raises over one million dollars at local McDonald’s

“We had 9,000 square feet of unfinished space that we really wanted to thoughtfully redesign and reconfigure,” said Beth Trunfio, executive director of the Ronald Mcdonald House of Central New York.

The project will include a comfortable, spacious living space for families who are staying at the non-profit. The organization has added six new family-style suites, both one-bedroom and two-bedroom, providing a total of 14 beds. The space is designed to make families feel right at home during their stay.

“The goal is to really meet the needs of these families who may be working remotely now whose children are immunocompromised that really need a little more privacy for their own health and well-being,” said Trunfio.

But the RMHC of CNY needs your help in reaching its fundraising goal of $1.1 million. So far, the organization has raised $815,000.

“We have some unique opportunities, funding opportunities, people can have naming opportunities. But we’re also launching a housewarming site, so that if individuals are interested in helping to underwrite the mini-fridges or the children’s tables, and all those other amenities that you find in a home, all of those kind of soft goods that you’re putting in, we will welcome that support as well,” said Trunfio.

The fourth floor is expected to be completed by the end of June.
