East Toledo resident says city came to clear abandoned house, didn’t finish the job
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - An East Toledo resident says the City of Toledo came to clear out an abandoned property in her neighborhood, but she says they did not finish the job. Candy Kirchner says that she has been contacting officials for years about overgrowth, vermin, and piles of old tires strewn in her neighborhood.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The Toledo Humane Society live streamed a puppy playtime Thursday morning to help four puppies find their “fur-ever” homes. THS says Phoenix, Cerberus, Yeti and Chimera were found and a box and brought into the humane society. They aren’t exactly sure what their breed is and would need a DNA test to confirm, but THS says they’re 100% cute.

Blissfield man dies in ORV crash south of Palmyra
BLISSFIELD TWP. — A Blissfield man died Saturday after his off-road vehicle crashed in a field south of Palmyra. Troopers from the Michigan State Police were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. to the 7000 block of Scott Highway, according to a release from the Monroe MSP Post. Troopers determined a yellow Honda side-by-side was traveling southbound in the field when the driver lost control. The ORV rolled over multiple times.
ProMedica undertakes $17M expansion to handle more pediatric psychiatric patients
ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital is nearly doubling the capacity of its inpatient pediatric psychiatric unit as part of a $17 million state grant. The Toledo unit now has the ability to treat about 1,300 children each year with severe mental health problems vs. 700 before the renovation and expansion. The total number of in-patient beds has been expanded to 18 in all private rooms. That’s an increase from the 16 beds previously available that were further limited by a reluctance to have patients share rooms. Gov. Mike DeWine, who joined other dignitaries Thursday for a formal ribbon-cutting, said Ohio is addressing a mental health crisis among the young.

Toledo man charged, accused of strangulation, using axe handle to attack victim
TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man was arraigned Wednesday after he allegedly forced someone into his home and assaulted and strangled the victim. According to Toledo Municipal Court documents, 34-year-old Shaun Mendez forced a victim into his home by "repeatedly punching" and strangling the victim in a vehicle on April 18. Mendez is also accused of assaulting the victim with an axe handle "over an extended period," police said in documents.
