In turn, the animal shelter and the city issued a reminder for pet parents to have their furry friends vaccinated against rabies, as required by the State of Texas.

The City of Sweetwater told KTAB/KRBC it was a skunk which tested positive to rabies recently. No further information has been released.

Signs of rabies include abnormal behaviors for the animal. Initial symptoms of rabies in humans can be similar to the flu.
