SWANSEA, Mass. (WWLP) – Three Massachusetts men were arrested for allegedly stealing more than $430,000 from a cash courier at gunpoint outside a Swansea bank.

According to the Department of Justice in Boston, in February two men were seen on video stealing a U-Haul van in Abington. Later that day, the same van allegedly pulled alongside a courier who worked for a company that provides secure cash transportation services for licensed cannabis companies at a bank in Swansea. The courier was armed and carrying approximately $436,200 for deposit.

A man got out of the U-Haul wearing a mask pointed a firearm at the courier and zip-tyed his hands behind his back. Another man then got out of the U-Haul and loaded the cash into the vehicle. In an attempt to disarm the courier, the two men allegedly forced the courier into the back seat of his own car, pepper sprayed him, and closed the door.

The courier was able to remove the zip-tie while inside his vehicle, draw his firearm, and fire four rounds in the direction of the U-Haul van as it drove away before calling 911. The men ditched the U-Haul and set it on fire nearby and allegedly met a third man driving an SUV where they transferred the stolen money.

The investigation led to identifying the three suspects as 38-year-old Steven Madison of Bridgewater, 37-year-old Christopher White of Raynham, and 35-year-old Quentin McDonald of Brockton.

During a search at Madison’s home, officers found approximately $5,000 located in various amounts throughout the house, a $47,000 Rolex watch, a sweatshirt similar to that worn by one of the robbers, a firearm, and ammunition.

Inside White’s home, officers found zip-ties, a black mask similar to that worn by one of the robbers, a firearm, and ammunition were recovered.

They were arrested on May 8th and charged with the following:

    • Robbery interfering with interstate commerce, commonly referred to as Hobbs Act robbery
    • Arson of property used in or affecting interstate commerce
    • Conspiracy

Madison and White were also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
