Fans of the Pointer Sisters will want to check out a tribute band called The Neutrons, who will be performing Saturday, June 1 at the Coyote Lakes Recreation Club in Surprise.

In the 1980s, very few girl groups had reached the heightened success that the Pointer Sisters achieved.

Originally from Oakland, California, the four sisters Bonnie, June, Ruth, and Anita began their singing careers in the 1970s. Bonnie eventually left the group to pursue her own solo career. However, the other three sisters remained together doing shows as a trio act.

By the 1980s, the group began to reach a level of success that most up and coming musicians can only dream about. They achieved wide commercial success with popular hit songs like, “Jump (For my Love),” “He’s So Shy,” “Automatic,” “Slow Hand,” and “Neutron Dance” were signature soulful harmonies that made audiences want to get up and dance.

The sisters made guest appearances on famous TV shows of the era like “Gimme A Break” and “The Love Boat.” “Neutron Dance” was featured in the timeless action movie “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Jump (For My Love)” was featured in the Oscar-nominated film, “Children of a Lesser God.” Even in later years, the song “Jump (For My Love)” was featured in the 2003 romantic holiday movie, “Love Actually.”

The Pointer Sisters also participated in the classic humanitarian song, “We Are the World” and songs “Jump (For My Love)” and “Automatic” both obtained Grammy awards.

June died in 2006, Bonnie died in 2020, and Anita died in 2022. Ruth is the only surviving member and tours regularly.

This June, we will be keeping their music alive with tribute band, The Neutrons who will be performing the songs that made iconic group famous at their first community concert.

Ticket purchases include light bites, beverages and two cocktails. It’s time to reminisce, sing along, and dance to the songs you love.

This show will be taking place from 4 to 7 p.m. at Coyote Lakes, 18860 N. Coyote Lakes Parkway.

Tickets are on sale now at $25 person, or fans can buy two-for-one tickets at just $15 by visiting Eventbrite.com.

Fans can also receive a two-for-one ticket link by texting “Jump” to 480-930-9375.
