Opposing sides weigh in on Platte-Republican diversion proposal
Ideas of protecting the farm economy clashed with environmental concerns at a public hearing Thursday. There is a proposal to divert water from the Platte River in central Nebraska near Lexington to the Republican River in the south of part of the state. That would ensure farmers in the Republican Valley have enough to irrigate, while still sending enough water across the state line to satisfy an interstate compact with Kansas. Todd Siel of the Lower Republican Natural Resources District supported the Platte-Republican Diversion project, or PRD.
Pre-trial date moved for Lexington man accused of 2023 firework assault
LEXINGTON — A pre-trail date has been set back for a Lexington man who was charged in relation to a firework assault that caused burns to a passenger and damaged a vehicle. Adrian Navarrete, 20, has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault, a Class 2A felony, criminal mischief – over $5,000, a Class 4 felony and unlawful throwing of fireworks, a Class 3 misdemeanor.
