Cowley College visits the Kansas Wheat Festival
By Hunter Ferguson, Cowley College communication specialist —The 124th Wheat Festival, held from July 9 to 13, was a grand celebration for Wellington and all of Sumner County. This annual event, steeped in tradition and community spirit, brought together residents and visitors alike to revel in a week of festivities.
Wellington Recycling Center will be open on Mondays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sumner Newscow report — Effective on Monday, July 29, the Wellington Recycling Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays. This reduces the previous operating hours on Mondays by one hour (we were previously open until 2:00 p.m.). Lower traffic volumes have been occurring on Mondays, and reducing the hours of operation helps us use staff more efficiently.
Resurfacing project on U.S. 160 begins Thursday, bringing back the traffic cones
Sumner Newscow report — The City of Wellington, utilizing grant funding from the Kansas Department of Transportation, has hired Pearson Construction to do a resurfacing project on US-160 (East 16th Street) from the roundabout to Woodlawn Ave. This consists of milling off the top two-inch of the asphalt surface, sealing underlying cracks and placing a new 2-inch asphalt driving surface.
