SULPHUR, Okla. — A disaster update town hall meeting was held in Sulphur to provide an update on how the city is recovering after last weekend’s tornado .

Last weekend, Sulphur was hit by an EF-3 tornado.

President Biden approved a Disaster Declaration to help people in that community.

At today’s town hall meeting, FEMA officials announced approved more than $50,000 dollars in personal assistance help.

The meeting also featured officials from Murray County, the city of Sulphur and the National Park Service.

The director of Murray County Emergency Management said while first responders have been working non-stop since the storm, that doesn’t mean they can't help you.

“What's happening is we have a lot of people that just aren’t calling for things for things that they need to call for,” Director Brad Lancaster explained.

“Don't feel like your injury is or you know someone’s injury might not be bad enough to go to the hospital, that doesn't mean we can't call and treat them,” Lancaster also said.

if you need help, officials say the Murray County Expo Center has plenty of supplies.

People can also donate needed items to the Expo Center. Items needed are propane canisters, new and unused pillows, dog beds and collapsible wagons.

The National Weather Service said in April at least 300 tornados touched down in the United States. That's second-highest number of tornados we've seen in April.

Normally, the National Weather Service sees around 182 tornadoes during April.

The strongest one was the EF-4, that hit Marietta.

If you want to help the people impacted by April’s tornadoes across the nation, GoFundMe has a hub of verified fundraisers people can donate to.
