Traffic stop yield drugs, pair charged
AVERY COUNTY — On April 22, 2024, narcotics detectives with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team conducted a traffic stop in the Ingalls community in efforts to combat illegal narcotics in Avery County, according to an April 30 press release from Sheriff Mike Henley. The vehicle stop resulted in the arrest of Mark King, 56, of Roaring Creek and Kimberly Storie, 47, of Roaring Creek. More than one-half ounce of methamphetamine, Diazepam pills and a firearm were located. According to the release, charges were issued that included possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance, and carrying a concealed weapon. Henley thanked Lieutenant Kelly Johnson of the Spruce Pine Police Department and his K9 Officer “Tank” for their assistance, according to the release.
Avery County Schools activity bus involved in minor crash
BOONE — On the morning of April 23, a Avery County Schools activity bus with students onboard was involved in a minor crash on the way to a field trip to Greensboro. No one on the bus was injured, and the group was able to continue to its destination following a delay. According Trooper D.
