North Carolina man arrested on attempted kidnapping charge
A North Carolina man was jailed last week after he allegedly attempted to kidnap a juvenile girl in the parking lot of a Williamson convenience store. According to Mingo County Magistrate Court documents, on June 1, officers were approached by the juvenile victim and a collaborating witness who stated that Moises Garcia Hernandez, 48, of Sparta, had initiated the incident at the 7-Eleven by “saying inappropriate comments to her and [grabbing] her trying to get her to go with him.”

Jefferson Forest, Galax boys soccer sweep VHSL top honors
ROANOKE, Va. – With the Spring sports season behind us, VHSL postseason accolades have begun to trickle in for boys soccer. At the Class 4 ranks, Jefferson Forest senior goalkeeper Tyler Beck was named the Player of the Year and head coach Scott Zaring was named Coach of the Year. Beck tallied 80 saves during his senior season and more impressively finished with 18 shutouts. That’s tied for the second most in VHSL history for a single season. The Liberty University commit allowed only one goal during the regular season.
Grayson VFW Post 7726 holds military funeral for Combs
Grayson County VFW Post 7726 and the U.S. Naval Reserve Military Funeral Honors Unit paid respects May 24th at the burial of U.S. Navy veteran Dennis R. Combs. Post Senior Vice Commander Johnny Burris and Chaplain Tommy Nichols conducted the service. The Honor Guard provided a volley of 3 gun salute. Taps was played. WEST JEFFERSON — A candidate for Ashe County Commissioner was arrested on Saturday following an incident at Walmart. According to an arrest warrant obtaining from the Ashe County Clerk of Court’s office, Tanya Lynette Robinson, 38, of Jefferson, was charged with one felony count of obtaining property by false pretense on June 1.
