Vets keeping 24 hour watch in Ottawa

Two hundred military vets are participating in a 24 hour Honor Guard Vigil now in Ottawa. Veterans and their families are standing in position in 15 minute shifts at Washington Square Park War Memorial. The annual event started in 2009 through the Ottawa American Legion Post 33. Participants can warm themselves in a tent pitched nearby.

County Board reverses earlier vote on Sharia law

The LaSalle County Board earlier this week voted to rescind an earlier resolution denouncing Sharia law and affirming the supremacy of the U.S. Constitution. The resolution was originally approved after the board heard concerns from residents about the potential purchase of the closed Fox River Resort in Norway. Some marketing materials had advertised the property as an Islamic community, although the developer later said it would be used only as a resort.

It was all treats for Sun City this spooky season. Local Halloween events brought the community together, as residents, grandkids, and neighbors united to celebrate. This year, the Grandma, Grandpa, and Me charter club (GG&Me) Halloween party saw a record-breaking turnout, with over 125 grandchildren officially registered for the festivities.
