Chiefs WR Rashee Rice files for bankruptcy, claiming more than $3.45 million in debt

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Wednesday, Nov. 4, claiming millions in liabilities, much of which was tied to a 2024 car crash. Rice claimed just $677,054 in personal assets against more than $3.45 million in debts, according to the filing. More than $3.27 million was the product of unsecured debts via civil litigation, business debt and consumer debt. Among Rice's listed assets in the filing were a 2023 Mercedes-Benz valued at $53,800 and a Super Bowl 58 ring valued at $160,000. In March 2024, Rice was driving 119 mph in a Lamborghini Urus on a Dallas highway before causing a six-car crash , according to an arrest warrant. The following July, he pleaded guilty to third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. Rice was found to have violated his probation in May 2026 after testing positive for marijuana. He was ordered to spend 30 days in jail. Attorney Marc Lenahan told WFAA in July 2025 his client, Kathryn Kuykendall, had not received payment after Rice agreed to a $1 million settlement when an Uber she was riding in was struck by Rice's

Longtime Kansas City preacher and civil rights leader, Sam Mann, died this week

In 2011, when the Rev. Sam Mann retired after 40 years leading St. Mark Union Church on Kansas City’s East Side, the late Rev. Nelson “Fuzzy” Thompson summed up the essence of one of Kansas City’s most beloved and respected preachers, calling Mann “a warrior and a beautiful brother.” His granddaughter, Briana Mann, in a Facebook post this week, announced that the Rev. Sam Mann died at home Tuesday morning, Nov. 3, after a long illness. He was 86. His memorial will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 21 at Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ, 1231 Garfield Ave., Kansas City. When the news of Mann’s passing hit the internet, his friends and colleagues flooded social media with praise, tributes, and messages of gratitude for his many years of service and fight for social and racial justice in Kansas City. “Today, we lost more than a grandfather,” Briana Mann said in her post. “We lost a true pillar of our family and community. He was a fierce community leader, a devoted pastor, a husband, and a father figure to so many.
