SUFFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – Suffield police say they recovered a deceased body from the Connecticut River Friday.

Capt. Robert Palmer said the recovery was extremely challenging due to the terrain and the river’s current- both creating safety concerns for recovery crews.

The body was reported around 8:30 a.m. and recovered around 11 a.m.

The body has been identified, but police said no additional information will be released until family is notified.

Police said the Office of Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene and will investigate the incident.

Recovery efforts took place near the Canal Trail, and the Suffield Fire Department and Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association assisted on scene. The Enfield Fire Department also provided support with boats in the river.
