He spent eight years as a teacher, three years as an assistant principal and, since 2017, as principal of Eastwood Elementary School. In 2021, Miller earned Principal of the Year for Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association's Region 4.

"Mike is a servant leader, will be missed, and we wish him the best on his new adventure," Superintendent Art Ebert said.

In 2019, during Miller's tenure, Eastwood Elementary School was named a Leader in Me Lighthouse School.

The Lighthouse Certification is a standard set by FranklinCovey that is attainable by every Leader in Me school. The certification, a multiple-year process, is intended to show schools have produced outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing the process with fidelity and excellence.

The principal position has been posted, with phone screening interviews set for Monday, May 6, through Saturday, May 11. Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, May 10.

First-round interviews will be held May 14, followed by second-round interviews May 16. A finalist recommendation is scheduled to be made to the board of education at its meeting May 20.

Ebert said the timeline is shorter than typically seen because "we anticipate that there will be great interest in the ... position."

"While Mike's shoes will be hard to fill, this interest gives us confidence that we will be able to quickly fill the position with an outstanding candidate," Ebert said. "Our hope is that a thorough and expedited process will give Eastwood’s new instructional leader ample time to work alongside Eastwood students, staff and families to ensure a strong start to the 2024-2025 school year."
