    Sturgis boys track still unbeaten in dual meets this season

    STURGIS — The Sturgis track and field teams continued their strong seasons on Tuesday evening.

    It was senior night for the Trojans. The boys won 78-59 over Edwardsburg and 110-27 over Niles and remain undefeated in the dual meet portion of the schedule. The Wolverine Conference determines the championship one-third dual meets and two-third the conference championship.

    Sturgis is hosting the Wolverine Championships next Friday, May 10.

    "These boys are poised to bring home the Wolverine Conference title, and winning the dual meet season gets them one step closer," Trojan boy's coach J.B. Starkey said. "We have been blessed with an amazing group of seniors, both in their leadership, their work ethic and performances. This team has been in the making for years, we are heading into that time of year when the focus shifts to optimum performance."

    Rasean O'Tey placed first overall in four events for the Trojans. He won the 100 (11.21 seconds), the 200 (22.49) and was part of the 400 and mile relay winning teams. In the 400, O'Tey teamed up with Brandin Kelley, Kaicee Kyle and Brenden Myers to post a time of 43.83 seconds. In the mile relay, O'Tey was the anchor following Ruben Medina, Tanner Hickey and Brock Fergison as they ran a time of 3:34.91.

    Sturgis won the 800 relay with Kyle, Dalton Tisdel, Zach Green and Myers running a time of 1:32.93. Green also won the 400 run at 50.76 seconds and posted a time of 23.77 seconds in the 200.

    Fergison won both jumping events. He claimed a 6-3 foot leap in the high jump and posted a 20-0 foot in the long jump. Nathan Kinder won the 300 hurdles at 43.52 seconds and was second in 110 hurdles at 16.05.

    Myers (11.32) was second and Kyle (11.71) was third in the 100. Myers also finished third in the 200 (23.26).

    Medina ran to first place in the 800 at 2:04.22, Nolan Park was third overall in the mile at 4:50.74 and the two-mile at 10:44.59.

    Gavin Strang was second in the shot put (43-9.5 feet).

    In pole vaulting action, Wyatt Miller was second at 11-6 feet, Tisdel finished third at 11-0 feet.
