Connail Jackson's 5 TDs, 284 yards run Cardinal Mooney past PB Central
WELLINGTON — Palm Beach Central High football coach Kevin Thompson didn't take the easy way out. When Lake Worth ended its season prematurely because of a roster shortage, Thompson looked for another opponent to take its place on the schedule. He found another team in the same situation across the state: Cardinal Mooney, the defending state Class 2A champion with an offense averaging more than 50 points a game. More high school football: LIVE Palm Beach County high school football: Week 10 FHSAA scores "Palm Beach Central ain't scared of nobody," Thompson said. "We'll play anybody, anytime, anywhere." On Oct. 23, the visitors from Sarasota lived up to their billing. It was the culmination of a rough week for the Broncos (6-3). Four days earlier, they lost to Jupiter 21-11 in the completion of a rain-interrupted game, dropping them out of first place in District 13-6A. Not only did they have to face one of the state's most explosive teams on a quick turnaround, but several starters were sidelined with injuries, including standout linebackers Joe Sykes and

But Phillips tossed a short pass to Darby on the next play, who turned it into a 28-yard gain that ignited the Sharks’ offense. Spanish River, which had run only 10 plays to that point, proceeded to drive 80 yards, with Darby rushing for 46 of his game-high 59 yards and punched in the game’s first touchdown with 10 seconds remaining in the second quarter. More High School Football: LIVE Palm Beach County high school football: Week 10 FHSAA scores The Sharks rode that momentum into the second half and beat the Cobras 19-0 Friday night in their Class 6A District 14 title game, giving Spanish River back-to-back district titles for the first time in school history. “This is a legacy game,” second-year Sharks coach Nick LaSala said. “This group has worked really hard.
