Hearing-impaired Burlington man dead after being hit by garbage truck
BURLINGTON, Iowa — A man is dead after being hit by a garbage truck Thursday morning in Burlington. An Iowa State Patrol crash report says the garbage truck was backing up on Isabella Avenue when the pedestrian, who is hearing-impaired, went to cross the street and was fatally hit. The report identifies 49-year-old Brian Whittaker of Burlington as the victim in the crash. The crash happened around 10:08 a.m. near the 2000 block of Isabella Avenue.
Gladstone woman convicted in crash that killed 2 construction workers on Great River Bridge sentenced
HENDERSON Co., Ill. (KWQC) - A Gladstone woman who was convicted in March of fatally striking two construction workers on the Great River Bridge in October 2022 was sentenced. The driver, Emily R. Johnson, 23, was found guilty of two counts of reckless homicide, a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years in prison, and two counts of aggravated use of a communication device, a Class 4 felony punishable by one to four years in prison.
Fatality crash reported in Des Moines County, Iowa State Patrol says
DES MOINES Co., Iowa (KWQC) - A fatal crash was reported in Des Moines County by the Iowa State Patrol. Thursday morning at 10:08 a.m. at 2001 Isabell Ave. in Burlington, a garbage truck was backing southbound on Isabell Ave., according to ISP’s crash report. A hearing impaired pedestrian attempted to cross the street and was struck by the garbage truck. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries.
