Fire In Jamestown’s Woods Creek Area Injured a Woman
Jamestown, CA – A woman cried for help early Monday morning as a fire began to grow in the Woods Creek area of Jamestown. A report of a fire on Monday, May 13th, around 2:51 a.m., sent Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies racing, with sirens and lights flashing, to the area of Wigwam Road near Highway 108. Sheriff’s official recount: “The reporting party told dispatchers she saw a small fire and heard a woman call for help and yell she was on fire.”

BB Gun Recovered From Student At Sonora High
Sonora, CA — The police department responded to Sonora High School on Wednesday after a student brought a BB gun to campus. Sonora High Superintendent Ed Pelfrey notes that the situation was reported by other students to school administrators, who immediately contacted the PD. An investigation was quickly conducted and the BB gun was recovered. No information was released related to the student involved, but the district stresses that bringing a weapon to campus is a violation of the Weapons at School Act which carries severe punishment for students in violation.

The annual Household Hazardous Waste and Paint Collection event hosted by Tuolumne County Solid Waste is this Saturday, May 18th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is being held at the Cal Sierra Recycling Center at 14909 Camage Avenue in Sonora. Jamestown, CA– An increased law enforcement presence has been observed around the Rawhide Bridge homeless encampment in Jamestown. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office deputies were responding to numerous complaints affecting the area’s quality of life and local businesses. Deputy Sheriffs are conducting patrol checks in the vicinity, enforcing violations of Penal and Health & Safety Codes, including Fish & Game Codes for pollution. During these operations, deputies arrested two females for outstanding warrants, with one found in possession of suspected fentanyl.

Caltrans To Swing Open Sonora Pass Gates
Sonora, CA – Caltrans District 10 officials report that Highway 108 Sonora Pass will officially reopen this afternoon. The gates will swing open at 3 p.m. for the season. Caltrans officials stated, “District 10 Long Barn and District 9 Sonora junction maintenance crews made good progress this season clearing Sonora Pass and are now ready to safely reopen the highway to traffic prior to Memorial Day!”
Utica Water And Power Authority Seeking Alternative To Costly FERC Relicensing
Murphys, CA — This weekend’s Mother Lode Views will feature Joel Metzger, the General Manager of the Utica Water and Power Authority. There are challenges on the horizon for the district that supplies water to many customers along the Highway 4 corridor. It is related to FERC relicensing, which the federal government requires every 30 years. The process is anticipated to cost the small district approximately $10 million. The district is instead seeking a FERC exemption, which is a one-time effort, and if approved, would save ratepayers considerable money over the long haul. If it is not approved, however, very difficult financial decisions are ahead.
