Microearthquake rumbles southeastern Connecticut

LEDYARD, Conn. (WPRI) — A small earthquake hit southeastern Connecticut on Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The USGS reports that a 1.8 magnitude quake occurred in the Ledyard area around 8:20 a.m.

The town of Stonington, located just a few miles south, put out a statement saying there were reports of loud booms and shaking buildings in the area.

Officials added that police and emergency management teams were investigating those reports.

No injuries have been reported.
