Janesville's Mt. Zion Avenue to reopen in the coming week after months-long rebuild
JANESVILLE — A mile-long stretch of Mt. Zion Avenue that’s been closed months for a major storm sewer and water revamp and resurfacing could fully reopen to traffic by the middle of next week. Colton Tuescher, the Batterman engineer who has managed construction work on the Mt. Zion project, said the stretch of the street that runs from just west of the Interstate 90/39 overpass to near the Milton Avenue corridor should fully reopen by Tuesday or Wednesday. Tuescher said crews aim this weekend wrap up painting centerline markers, bike lanes, crosswalks and other markings on the new asphalt-paved stretch, while work continues to wire in new overhead traffic signals at Randall Avenue and at the Jefferson Elementary School crossing. Jefferson school’s crossing gets some upgrades over an earlier setup. “They’re higher-visibility traffic signal heads with and audible, push-button signal there that will stop traffic (for pedestrians),” Tuescher said. He said the school crossing and other crossings are painted in a higher-visibility “ladder style” that drivers can see from a greater distance. Mt. Zion took months to complete because it included storm sewer overhaul, with parts of the work designed to help alleviate historic water ponding problems on the street

Wisconsin -- Beer Tasting -- Train Rides
The East Troy Railroad Museum (often branded as the East Troy Electric Railroad) offers something increasingly rare in American preservation: a living, rideable slice of electric interurban history. Instead of steam plumes or diesel thunder, this is the world of trolley poles, overhead wire, vintage traction motors, and the easy rhythm of a train built for short hops between communities. It’s an experience that feels intimate and surprisingly immersive—especially when the museum pairs its historic equipment with themed excursions like its Beer Tasting Train, a 2½-hour evening ride designed to blend scenic travel with guided sampling.
