Rome man treasures receipt of father's WWII medals
ROME — After years of trying, a Rome man has received his father’s medals for his service in the Navy during World War II. Although it took Jim Pfeiffer, 63, of Rome, almost six years to get his father’s medals, Pfeiffer said receiving the medals was well worth the time and effort — and that the medals have quickly become important artifacts for the family.

Ilion Village Board tackles water meter controversy
ILION — The Village of Ilion Board of Trustees met for its monthly board meeting on Monday, May 13, at the Municipal Building. The main topic of discussion was the village of Ilion Municipal Building being inundated with residents after a letter was mailed on May 7. The letter instructed residents to contact the village regarding their water meters, which had been serviced by contractors from East Main. It warned that failure to comply with the instructions would result in the village enforcing local law, specifically Meter Section 19F, subsection b. This law allows the Village to impose a $250 fine per quarter on non-compliant residents and potentially cut off their water supply.
