STILLWATER — As suggested by the 52 runs over four games, it appears the Oklahoma State baseball bats are heating up again.

The 16th-ranked Cowboys rolled to four straight wins last week, averaging 13.0 runs per game.

After losing three in a row last week , the Pokes have responded with five straight victories heading into a big week that concludes at Texas.

Here’s a look at what we learned about the Cowboys last week:

Oklahoma State baseball player of the week

Carson Benge: Not only did the sophomore right fielder lead the power surge with five home runs in four games and win Big 12 Player of the Week honors, going 8 for 17 with 10 RBIs, he also made his first appearance in the weekend rotation. The hard-throwing Yukon product had strictly been used as a late-inning reliever , but got the start Thursday and earned his first victory. He allowed one run on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts over five innings.

Oklahoma State baseball player on the rise

Nolan Schubart: An early injury got Schubart off to a slower start than expected, but the sophomore left fielder is finding his groove lately. He has hit safely in 12 of his last 15 games, including all four last week. He went 9 for 15 with three home runs, a double and 10 RBIs, raising his batting average from .272 to .318.

    Number to know

16: The Pokes dropped 16 bombs last week, with Benge and Schubart combining for half of them. But Zach Ehrhard added three of his own, while catcher Ian Daugherty’s hot streak continued with a pair of homers. Infielder Avery Ortiz hit two as well, and Kollin Ritchie added one.
