Steubenville, OHIO (WTRF) – April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, and a local organization is looking for your help to be an advocate for local children.

On Wednesday evening at Historic Fort Steuben, A Child’s Place CASA held their 24th annual Light of Hope Event.

They set up 223 luminaries, one for each child that the organization currently serves across Brooke, Hancock and Jefferson counties.

The hope is that this event draws attention to area kids facing abuse and neglect that need a voice, and will inspire local residents to become advocates for them.

“They don’t need any special skills, we do all the training for them. And then they go out and do home visits and check in on all sorts of different things related to whatever the core problem of the family unit is, and then gather information and write a written court report to the judge, so the judge has the most possible information to make the best educated decision on behalf of that child.”

Rhonda Stubbs – Executive Director of A Child’s Place CASA

Studio B was there to perform and give a donation, and So Nuts for Donuts and Rusty Bell provided food.

If you would like to become an advocate, you can call A Child’s Place CASA at 304-737-4444, or email them at childsplacecasa@comcast.net. You can also visit their website or find them on Facebook .
