STERLING, Va. ( DC News Now ) — First responders were at the scene of a fire at a warehouse in Sterling on Monday afternoon.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Asst. Fire Chief Travis Preau said that crews called for a second alarm at the warehouse, which stores roofing material. Preau said no one was inside the building, but that a firefighter had minor heat injuries.

Virginia State Police troopers evacuated nearby businesses and warehouses.

It took about two and half hours to get the fire under control due to the size of the warehouse and the things that were burning inside, according to a news release from Loudoun County Fire and Rescue.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for minor burn-related injuries.

Crews will remain there throughout the night to ensure that hotspots were put out.

The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating what caused the fire.
