UNIVERSITY PARK (Nittany Nation) — Lelani Kapinus is the latest show to drop in an offseason of turnover around Penn State women’s basketball. Despite posting 22-wins, the most in the Carolyn Kieger era, the team has flipped its roster upside down since it ended

Kapinus announced her transfer to Vanderbilt on social media, becoming the third Lady Lion starter to exit since the end of the season, joining Ali Brigham, who transferred to Bryant, and Shay Ciezki who left for Indiana as key outgoing members.

Penn State will not return any of its top six scorers from last season next year with the graduations of Makenna Marisa, Tay Valladay and Ashley Owusu adding to the exits. That leaves Jayla Oden’s 5.6 points-per-game as the leading returner next fall.

Penn State did add in the portal this spring, getting commitments from Bellarmine sophomore center Gracie Merkle who was the ASUN freshman of the year in 2023, but missed last season with an injury. Penn State also landed transfer Tamera Johnson from the University of Louisiana.
