UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) – A Penn State storage facility on the back of a popular music store in downtown State College suffered fire damage Wednesday evening.

Around 6 p.m., Alpha Fire Department and Penn State Police responded to the 100 block of N. Barnard Street for reports of a residential porch fire. When they arrived on scene, crews found a working fire on the backside of a single-story commercial building owned by Penn State on the 100 block of Coal Alley.

According to Shawn Kauffman, the Fire Director for the Centre Region, the portion of the building that was on fire appeared to be a storage space owned by Penn State and was not in use at the time.

Only minor damage to the exterior of the building has been reported.

This portion of the building is attached to popular downtown music store Rainbow Music, which did not suffer fire damage.
