STAR CITY, W.Va. (WBOY) — About a mile and a half of Star City’s Rail will be closed for several weeks due to a repaving and drainage project that began on May 14 .

The Caperton Trail between mile markers six and eight will be closed without detours due to the presence of heavy machinery, according to the Executive Director of the Mon River Trails Conservancy (MRTC) Ella Belling.

“The impacted area starts at the existing paved trail in Star City, through the Tugboat Depot Playground in Edith Barill Park, to the start of the WVU Core Arboretum,” Belling said in an email to 12 News.

Contractors will be repaving the trail and installing drainage upgrades to protect the rail trail during storms. According to Belling, work on the trail could continue until the end of May, but the eventual completion date will depend on weather and disruptions from trail users.
