A Stantonsburg man pulled himself from a mostly submerged vehicle after driving into a watery ditch Monday.

Wilson County Emergency Medical Services treated Bradley Holbrook, 34, at the scene and transported him to East Carolina University Medical Center following the incident.

N.C. State Highway Patrol First Sgt. G.S. Hemby said the single-car wreck happened at 5:30 p.m. on N.C. 222 about one-tenth of a mile north of Waycross Road.

Holbrook was the only occupant in a 2024 Ford Escape headed south on N.C. 222 between Saratoga and Stantonsburg at the time of the wreck.

Holbrook managed to climb out of the vehicle and was assisted by other motorists

Hemby said Holbrook told investigating Trooper C.D. Baker that he passed out prior to the collision.

Holdbrook was cited for failure to maintain lane control, Hemby said.

Hemby reported that no other vehicles were involved and there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs and no evidence of mechanical failure in the vehicle.

Stroud’s Auto Repair & Wrecker Service from Saratoga responded to retrieve the vehicle from the ditch.

Sanoca Rural Fire District sent personnel and trucks to the scene to assist in the wreck.
