Update: Potential tropical development in Gulf

AL97 Update - Watching an area of low pressure in the Gulf, just south if the the mouth of the Mississippi River. This system continues to slowly organize, and has the potential to become a tropical depression or even a tropical storm within the next 36 hours or so. Weather forecast model runs are pretty much in agreement on a landfall point near the Beaumont/Port Arthur area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. As for us here in the Crossroads area, it looks like we will be on the far western side of the circulation center, which is typically the dry side, so if the forecast holds true, effects in our area should be minimal, outside of higher waves and increased rip current risk along Gulf facing beaches.
