Missouri woman indicted for alleged lottery ticket scheme

(KOAM) - A federal grand jury in Springfield, Missouri, indicted Amy Young, a 31-year-old woman from Mount Vernon, for her alleged role in a conspiracy to purchase nearly 2,000 lottery tickets using stolen credit cards.

The indictment, returned today, charges Young with two counts related to the scheme.

It alleges that between July 22 and August 18, 2022, Young orchestrated the use of stolen credit cards to buy lottery tickets at a Phillips 66 Fuel Station in Joplin, Missouri. She reportedly recruited others to help, directing them to claim cash prizes for any winning tickets obtained through the fraudulent purchases.

They would then share the money, with Young receiving a portion.

According to the indictment, Young and her accomplices used stolen credit cards to purchase 1,957 Missouri Lottery tickets worth $62,082 . They received $54,248 in cash prizes for the winning tickets, resulting in a total of at least $116,330 obtained fraudulently.

The charges against Young include one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of wire fraud, specifically related to the alleged purchase of $480 in lottery tickets using a stolen credit card on August 18, 2022.

It is important to note that these charges are accusations, and Young is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney and investigated by the FBI.
