SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The City of Springfield is partnering with the Springfield Pride Parade Organization to host a “Pride Crosswalk Painting” on Sunday.
Districts look to state for guidance on LGBTQ student issues The event will be held at Main Street and Bridge Street from 9:30 a.m. to noon in collaboration with Common Wealth Murals, as well. Springfield High School students will be the main contributors to the project as part of the city’s “Safe Space Initiative”. The goal is to support inclusivity, provide public recognition, and remind LGBTQIA+ youth that they are safe and members of the community.
Roadways such as Main Street between Worthington Street and Harrison Street and Bridge Street between Main Street and Barnes Street will be closed to traffic between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
“Their dedication to inclusivity and willingness to go above and beyond in supporting PRIDE initiatives truly exemplifies the spirit of our community,” said Karen Finn, Executive Director of Springfield Cultural Partnership.
“We are grateful to the Springfield City Council for their unanimous decision made on April 29, 2024, to approve our plans to install permanent PRIDE crosswalks on Main Street,” said Karen Finn. “Springfield Cultural Partnership partners, City leadership, and civic-minded organizations are working together with incredibly talented and enthusiastic local creatives and culture bearers allowing for more community-centered art to make its way into this great city,” Finn added.
