According to a news release sent to 22News, Second Chance offers a low-cost spay and neuter program that began in 2005 at the East Brookfield shelter to help pet homelessness in the surrounding community. They have since relocated to North Brookfield and have hospitals in Southbridge, Springfield, and Worcester.

The milestone was marked at the Springfield Veterinary Hospital with Mable, a 16-week-old female Basset Hound.

“Reaching 80,000 spay/neuter surgeries is a remarkable accomplishment for us,” said Sheryl Blancato, CEO and founder of Second Chance. “It’s not just about preventing unwanted litters; it’s also about ensuring the health and happiness of our pets. Spaying and neutering can significantly reduce the risk of certain health issues, such as life threatening infections and reproductive cancers, ultimately leading to a longer, healthier life for pets.”

“As we celebrate this milestone and our 25th anniversary, we reflect on the countless lives we’ve touched and the community that has supported us every step of the way,” notes Blancato. “Together, we’ve made a difference in the lives of animals and their human companions, and we look forward to continuing our mission for years to come.”
