    Baseball roundup: SHG tops Jacksonville, Plains beats Athens and more results from May 1-2

    Here are high school baseball results from the Springfield area for Wednesday and Thursday:

    Thursday’s results

    SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 10, JACKSONVILLE 3: At Comstock Field, Charlie Linderman delivered at the plate and on the mound to lift SHG to a Central State Eight Conference victory.

    The Cyclones took a commanding 6-0 lead with five runs in the second inning. Carson Butler had an RBI double and Linderman (2-for-4) brought home two runs with a single in the second. Gage Luttrell ended the inning with a two-run single.

    Tyler Springer finished 3-for-4 and scored three runs, while Drew Ward had two hits and scored two for SHG. Linderman earned the win, allowing four hits and one unearned run with three strikeouts and one walk in five innings of work.

    Jacob Henry provided Jacksonville with a two-run home run in the seventh.

    PLEASANT PLAINS 7, ATHENS 2: At Pleasant Plains, leadoff hitter Charlie Severino went 3-for-3 with a walk, three RBIs and five stolen bases as the Cardinals downed the Warriors in a Sangamo Conference tilt.

    Grady Grisham added three RBIs for Plains, which improved to 22-3 (overall, 7-1 Sangamo).

    Carter Durako doubled for the Cardinals.

    Taylor Brewer got the win on the mound by allowing just two runs on four hits and one walk across 5 2/3 innings.

    Josh Harris and Carson Reichert each had a pair of hits for Athens. Harris and Carson Moscardelli each doubled.

    ROCHESTER 18, DECATUR EISENHOWER 0 (4 innings): At Decatur, Jackson Phillips struck out nine in a complete-game no-hitter to lead the Rockets to a Central State Eight Conference win.

    Phillips walked two and hit one batter to prevent the perfect game in an otherwise stellar outing.

    Tyson Binion was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored from the Rockets’ leadoff spot. Jack Swaney and Parker Gillespie each had two hits. Eli Carlson had the lone triple for Rochester.

    PETERSBURG PORTA 6, WILLIAMSVILLE 2: At Petersburg, Jeff Karrick ripped a three-run double in a four-run first inning to lift the Bluejays to a Sangamo Conference win.

    Winning pitcher Nash Donnan went the distance, striking out five and walking two while giving up six hits and one earned run. Brady Kinney went 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs for PORTA, and Levi Hoagland delivered a run-scoring double in the fourth.

    Ryan Mendenhall went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for PORTA.

    LITCHFIELD 11, VANDALIA 1 (6 innings): At Litchfield, pitcher Carson Saathoff drove in five runs and fanned 10 batters on the mound as the Purple Panthers cruised in the South Central Conference.

    Saathoff (2-for-3) hit a grand slam to center field in the fourth inning to help his own cause and give Litchfield a 9-1 lead. He threw a complete game, striking out 10 and walking one and giving up two hits and one earned run.

    Drew Gasperson went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Mathew Bywater scored three runs and had two hits in the leadoff spot.

    GILLESPIE 10, ALTON MARQUETTE 2: At Gillespie, leadoff hitter Tristen Wargo was a perfect 4-for-4 and scored three runs in the Miners’ dominant nonconference win.

    Bryce Buhs tripled and drove in a pair of runs while fellow Miners Luke Schuckenbrock and Bryce Hohnsbehn each went 2-for-2 with two RBIs apiece.

    Gillespie improved to 20-7 and has won four straight. It is the third season in a row that the Miners have won at least 20 games.

    CARROLLTON 12, CARLINVILLE 9: At Carlinville, Camden Naugle went 2-fo4-2 with a home run and three RBIs but the Cavaliers still lost a nonconference game.

    Noah Convery added a home run to pull the Cavs into a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fifth.

    Dom Alepra was 2-for-5 with an RBI, a double and two runs scored while Blake Killam was 2-for-4 for the Cavs.

    Noah Byots doubled and had two RBIs for Carlinville.

    Carrollton hung eight runs in the top of the sixth.

    TAYLORVILLE 5, WARRENSBURG-LATHAM 2: At Warrensburg, Taylorville scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning and rallied for a nonconference win.

    Colton Gatton (2-for-4) started the seventh with an RBI single and winning pitcher Isaac Repscher and Jacob McWard both walked with bases full to give Taylorville a 3-2 lead. Then with two outs, Clark Durbin added a two-run single to push the advantage to 5-2.

    Durbin finished with three hits and Repscher pitched six innings, striking out seven and walking four. Blake Ladage threw the final inning and earned the save, allowing two hits and recording two strikeouts.

    PANA 14, HILLSBORO 8: At Pana, the Panthers sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored eight runs in a come-from-behind South Central Conference win.

    Madyx Angel went 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs to lead the Panthers’ offense. Cash Lynch added two hits, doubled, and had three RBIs for Pana.

    Ryan Karbach and Cole File each had multiple hits.

    Dylan Lessman went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Hiltoppers.

    LINCOLN 6, PEORIA NOTRE DAME 4: At Lincoln, Michael Lucas went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead the Railers in a nonconference win.

    Colbie Glenn went 2-for-4 from the Railsplitters’ leadoff spot and scored a pair of runs.

    Wyatt Mammen struck out five and scattered five hits and allowed five hits with four runs — two earned — to get the win.

    RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 11, BUFFALO TRI-CITY 0 (6 innings): At Buffalo, Mason Tryon went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored as the Lancers dominated the first game of an MSM Conference doubleheader.

    Lance Weitekamp was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Jhude Walker doubled, went 2-for-4 and knocked in three runs from the No. 8 spot in the lineup.

    Pitcher Drew Gilpen struck out nine in the complete-game shutout. He allowed three hits and no walks.

    RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 6, BUFFALO TRI-CITY 2: At Buffalo, Lincolnwood scored its first two runs on different errors and went on to sweep the MSM Conference doubleheader.

    Lance Weitekamp had two hits, including a double, to lead the Lancers’ offense. Jonah Elvidge, Donny Daugherty and Brayden Morris, who doubled, had the other hits for Lincolnwood.

    Brodey VanHooser struck out nine in six innings to get the win. He allowed two runs — none earned — on five hits and two walks.

    Cash O’Connell had two hits for the Tornadoes.

    LANPHIER 3, DECATUR ST. TERESA 2: At Robin Roberts Stadium, Bryce Ausmus hit a sacrifice fly to score Kaimen Smith to give the Lions a walk-off nonconference win over the Bulldogs.

    St. Teresa struck first with two runs in the top of the first. Lanphier halved the Bulldogs’ lead with a run in the second when Charlie Ramirez scored on a wild pitch. The Lions tied the game when Ausmus stole home in the bottom of the fourth.

    With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Smith hit a leadoff triple. The Bulldogs then intentionally walked Carter Tucker and Ramirez to load the bases. Ausmus then lofted the first pitch deep enough to score Smith from third.

    Tucker struck out eight in six innings pitched. He allowed two runs — both unearned — on two hits and five walks.

    PAWNEE 11, LUTHERAN 1 (5 innings): At Pawnee, the home team broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the bottom of the third then put the game out of reach with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth in an MSM Conference win.

    Jacob Butler went 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Trenton Hull, Carter Morell and Matthew Fuiten all drove in two runs apiece.

    Coy Clarke and Tyler Surber combined to strike out seven Crusaders and allowed one run on three hits and no walks.

    JERSEYVILLE 7, STAUNTON 1: At Jerseyville, Brady Gillen had two hits and Ethan Sharp drove in the Bulldogs’ lone run in a nonconference road loss.

    RIVERTON 8, NORTH MAC 0: At Riverton, pitcher Isaac Crumrine fanned 12 batters, walked just two and hurled a two-hit shutout for the Hawks.

    Crumrine had a hit and two RBIs. Jacob Files, who finished with four RBIs, gave Riverton a 5-0 lead with a three-run double in the third inning. Eithen Bates went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Bradley Armstrong walked once and scored three runs in the win.

    NOKOMIS 8, BUNKER HILL 4: At Bunker Hill, despite being outhit and committing twice as many errors, Nokomis managed to pull out a nonconference win.

    Nokomis scored eight runs on just three hits. Bunker Hill pitchers allowed eight walks, hit three batters, threw three wild pitches and the Minutemen defense committed two errors.

    Nokomis scored twice in the top of the first then added three runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Levi German had two of Nokomis’ three hits, including a triple, and drove in a run.

    CONCORD TRIOPIA 7, RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 3: At Concord, Jacob Cook went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs and teammates Brock York and Sam Miller added two hits apiece and combined to score three runs in the Trojans’ victory.

    Ben Fretueg and Carter Fretueg each drove in a run for Rushville-Industry.

    Wednesday’s results

    CHATHAM GLENWOOD 4, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 0: At Comstock Field, Cam Appenzeller racked up 11 strikeouts in six innings and the Titans recorded a Central State Eight Conference win.

    Appenzeller gave up just two hits with no walks and led the Titans (20-2, 7-0 CS8) with three hits and a run. Cru Erickson and Rigley Hickman had two hits apiece.

    Andrew Wahlbrink closed out the final inning with a strikeout and two walks allowed.

    Gage Luttrell took the loss with six strikeouts for SHG. He yielded 10 hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

    TAYLORVILLE 8, WILLIAMSVILLE 7 (8 innings): At Williamsville, Maxx Grieme delivered the go-ahead 2-RBI double to complete a comeback nonconference win for the Tornadoes.

    Colton Gatton produced a 2-RBI single in the top of the seventh inning and scored the game-tying run on a Jacob McWard sacrifice fly. Clark Durbin chipped in two hits and two RBIs as well.

    Kason Pembroke picked up the win in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out six and gave up one earned run on three hits and four walks.

    Josh Cates led the Bullets with three hits, including a triple. Brecken Thomas had a double with two RBIs.

    SOUTHEAST 13, EDWARDSVILLE METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 3 (6 innings): At Southeast, Carter Hood went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run in a nonconference win.

    Tim Herrington had a double with two RBIs and three runs. Carter Murphy lasted 5 2/3 innings and struck out six. He gave up two earned runs on four hits and three walks.

    MOUNT PULASKI 10, ATHENS 0 (6 innings): At Mount Pulaski, cousins Landon and Liam Smith each had a double and the Hilltoppers totaled 11 hits in the Tomhawk Conference win.

    Landon finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the leadoff spot while Liam went 2-for-2 with three runs. Eric Cooper had two hits with three runs while Colt Selinger had a hit with three RBIs and a run.

    Luke Martin racked up 11 strikeouts in a complete game. He gave up five hits and two walks.

    LINCOLN 6, NEW BERLIN 0: At New Berlin, Colbie Glenn and Brenden Wurth each homered in a nonconference.

    The Railsplitters pulled away with four runs in the fifth, including Wurth’s three-run dinger.

    Carson Fuiten allowed just four hits and one walk in a complete game. He struck out three.

    O’FALLON 11, ROCHESTER 1 (6 innings): At O’Fallon, Eli Carlson homered in the fifth inning to provide the Rockets with their lone run in a nonconference loss.

    Jack Swaney and Jett Myren had the other two Rochester hits.

    PETERSBURG PORTA 8, BEARDSTOWN 0: At Petersburg, Jett Karrick allowed no runs in a complete-game victory for the Bluejays.

    He gave up just four hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Drew Atwater took three walks in the leadoff spot and scored twice. Trace Donnan had two RBIs with no hits. Brody Landon had a double and scored two runs.

    JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 8, PITTSFIELD 1: At Jacksonville, Isaac Long produced two doubles with two RBIs and collected the win on the mound in four innings.

    Long gave up one run on five hits and two walks with one strikeout. Nolan Turner tossed the final three innings in relief and gave up just one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

    Turner led off the order with two hits and two runs while Conrad Charpentier had two hits and two RBIs. Brady Turner had a triple with an RBI and run. Eli Olson contributed a double with two RBIs.

    GILLESPIE 13, DUPO 1 (5 innings): At Gillespie, leadoff hitter Tristen Wargo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the Miners’ nonconference win.

    Bryce Hohnsbehn, Gillespie’s first baseman, doubled, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice while Colin Griffith tripled, drove in two runs and stole home.

    Pitcher Owen Schweppe got the win for Gillespie with four strikeouts in three innings. He allowed one run on one hit and two walks.

    GREENFIELD/NORTHWESTERN 5, JACKSONVILLE 3: At Greenfield, Brandon Sims tripled and finished with two hits in the Crimson’s nonconference loss.

    PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 10, CARLINVILLE 0 (5 innings): At Piasa, Colin LeMarr threw a no-hitter and gave up just one walk with nine strikeouts in a South Central Conference win.

    Ryan Lowis hit a two-run home run and the Piasa Birds scored seven runs in the fifth.

    Carlinville pitcher Dom Alepra struck out two batters in one inning pitched.

    LITCHFIELD 9, BUNKER HILL 0: At Litchfield, Drake Gasperson threw a no-hitter and dialed up 13 strikeouts with just three walks in a complete game.

    Mathew Bywater hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning while Gasperson had a hit with two RBIs and a run.

    PAWNEE 16, LUTHERAN 0 (3 innings): At Lutheran, Jacob Butler and Riley McElroy combined to throw a short perfect game and six strikeouts in an MSM Conference win.

    Tyler Surber produced two hits with an RBI and three runs.

    NOKOMIS 5, PANA 3: At Pana, Nokomis rallied to a nonconference win with all five runs in the seventh inning.

    Ian Keller delivered the go-ahead RBI single and finished with two hits. Brenton Lyons added a couple of insurance runs with a 2-RBI line drive to left field.

    Keller earned the win in the final two innings. He gave up one unearned run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
