Master Gardeners to host upcoming event in Spring City

Greetings, Rhea Countians! The Rhea County Master Gardeners would like to take this opportunity to share some of our latest community events for this past week.

First, we hosted a booth at kids’ night at the Strawberry Festival, we gave out chocolate covered strawberries for the kiddos, and we gave out information on our organization to the adults. There were lots of smiling faces when you got a chocolate dipped strawberry! We did learn one thing…we needed a lot more strawberries.

Our next event we held a Rose Garden tea on May 9 for the residents of the Spring City Nursing Home and Rehab Center. We served both herbal hibiscus tea and black tea along with petite fours and other goodies. We honored two of the residents that spent as much time as possible in the Rose Garden doing weeding and planting.

Ms. Patsy McClendon was awarded an honorary Master Gardener certificate and an embroidered smock, gloves, and a gardening hat. We also honored Ms. Wilma Roberts, who sadly had passed away. Her sister Margaret came and accepted the award on her behalf. It was a very good time for everyone. We are planning to make this an annual event. Thank you, Rhea County, for supporting our efforts to help make Rhea a beautiful place to call home.

Send questions to rheacomg@gmail.com or write to us at Rhea County Extension Office, c/o Master Gardeners, 125 Court Street, Suite 3, Dayton TN, 37321.
