Chargers Defeat East Brunswick Magnet on the Diamond on Senior Day

SPOTSWOOD, NJ - After a Friday Night Lights victory at Milltown's Michelin Field, the Spotswood High School varsity baseball team was back at it on Saturday. Spotswood defeated East Brunswick Magnet 15-5 on Senior Day. The Chargers exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving the team its third mercy rule victory in a row. Carter Cumiskey charged Spotswood offense and Jack Bicsko picked up the win on the mound. Ryan Orth, Breckyn DeAngelis and Mason Bitalla had multiple hit games for the Chargers.
Bicsko pitched two innings, giving up two runs and striking out three. Jack Louro and Tyler Oleksy also spent time on the mound for Spotswood. Louro had five strikeouts. Joseph Squllante was charged with the loss for East Brunswick Magnet. Squillante pitched five innings, giving up 12 runs on 11 hits and striking out two. Tommy O'Neil pitched two innings for EB Magnet, giving up three runs on three hits.
Cumiskey had another big game offensively for Spotswood. The junior cracked a sixth inning three-run homer deep into the Swamp's right field power alley. Cumiskey's home run made the score 14-5. The Milltown native had two singles, two stolen bases, four RBIs and scored three runs. Orth hit two singles, had an RBI, scored two of the Chargers runs and had two stolen bases. DeAngelis hit two singles, had three RBIs, scored three runs and stole two bases. Bitalla hit a run-scoring double to left field to end the game. The senior also had a single in the game for Spotswood. Will Buchan hit a single, had an RBI and scored two runs for Spotswood. Colin Pfeiffer had a single, an RBI and scored two runs. Mateo Rivera hit a single and had an RBI. Shawn Lennan had an RBI. John Lubin hit a double and scored a run. Sebastian Saracino hit a single and had an RBI. Steven Spisso scored a run for Spotswood. O'Neill and Nomar Carrearas had hits for East Brunswick Magnet.
Saturday was the Chargers' annual Senior Day. Jack Louro, Breckyn DeAngelis, Colin Pfeiffer, Mason Bitalla, Gavin Cahill, Mateo Rivera, Coleman Frost and Luc Acquaviva were all recognized for their contributions to the Spotswood High School baseball program. Spotswood clinched back-to-back Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division titles this week for the first time since the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
On Monday, the team begins its quest for a deep run in the Greater Middlesex County Baseball Tournament. Spotswood is the fourth seed and received a play-in round bye. The Chargers host 13 th seeded Middlesex High School at the Swamp. Middlesex eliminated 20 th seeded Metuchen High School 7-0 on Saturday in the play-in round. Middlesex is 6-12 in the GMC's White Division. Game time is TBA.

That made the score 14-5 and senior Mason Bitalla hit a run scoring double into left field to end the game. Cumiskey finished 3 for 5 with a home run, 4 driven in and scored 3 times.
