Ava Mormile Picks up 300th Career Strike as Chargers Down Ewing

SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Ava Mormile picked up her 300th strike as the Spotswood High School varsity softball team earned its eighth straight victory on Wednesday. Spotswood defeated Ewing High School 7-3 to improve the Chargers' overall season record to 9-1. Mormile went the distance for the Chargers, giving up three runs on six hits. The junior struck out 10 batters, earning her 300th career strike in the process. Spotswood's win was Mormile's ninth victory on the mound.

Gabrielle Hill made her varsity debut for the Chargers. Hill went three-for-four in the game, hitting her first career home run. The freshman also had a triple and a single. Hill ended the game with four RBIs, scoring two of the Chargers' runs. Sasha Soffer had two singles in the game. Soffer had an RBI and scored a run. Hanna Brown and Reese Cunningham both an RBI. Lara Yarnall and Delanie DiStefano each scored a run for Spotswood. Hannah Graulich scored two of the Chargers' runs.

Morgan Dwyer was charged with the loss on the mound for Ewing. Dwyer pitched two innings, giving up four runs on two hits and striking out two. Abby Singer also spent time on the mound for Ewing. Singer pitched four innings, giving up three runs on three hits and striking out six. Ameerah Brown-McMullen, Amonnie WertsPanniel, Giuliana Gustino, Abbie Mhan and Sydney Mahan had hits for Ewing. Singer had a home run.

Spotswood returns to the field on Saturday when the Chargers take on Colonia High School at the Community Park in North Brunswick in the 2024 Autism Awareness Challenge. Colonia has an overall season record of 6-3. Game time is at 4 p.m.
