SPOONER — The Spooner baseball team is picking up steam, winning four out of their last five ball games, including defeating Grantsburg 12-4 on Monday, April 29.

Coach Josh Villella and the Rails are now 8-6 following their most recent win over the Pirates.

Since April 22, the Rails have been hot and playing well. In that game, they topped Ladysmith 11-5 in Heart O’ North Conference action.

They followed that game with another HON win on April 23, beating Chetek/Weyerhaeuser 6-5. On Thursday, April 25, the Rails won another close one, nipping Cumberland 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. The Beavers came back in game two to top the Rails 7-2.

Spooner is currently 5-5 in HON play, in sixth place in the conference. Overall, the Rails are 8-6.

The Rails were scheduled to travel to Northwestern on April 30. On Friday, May 3, the Rails will travel to Cameron for a 5 p.m. game with the Comets. On Monday, May 6, at 5 p.m., the Rails will be home at Merchant Park to host the Ashland Oredockers.
