No substantiative threats at SMS

SPOONER - No substantiated evidence was found at Spooner Middle School after staff was informed of a possible threat on Monday, April 15.

According to the SMS principal, shortly after the end of the school day, a student reported to an SMS staff member that they may have heard a comment regarding potential school violence at the school this week. The staff member notified administration immediately, and an interview was conducted with the student who made the report, along with other students in the area at the time.

The Spooner Police Department and Washburn County Sheriff’s Department were also notified and assisted the school, then conducted an investigation that evening. They were unable to substantiate any threat.

The departments will have additional presence at SMS this week and were on the school grounds Tuesday morning at the beginning of school. SMS will provide an update when more information becomes available.

Students are encouraged to reach out to law enforcement or school officials if they have information or concerns about school safety.
