Thousands of Premera Blue Cross members at risk of losing medical coverage

SPOKANE, Wash. -- More than 100,000 Premera Blue Cross members in Washington are at risk of losing medical coverage at Multicare.

The contract between Blue Cross and Multicare will expire at the end of May.  A new agreement has yet to be made.

The two companies have been in contract negotiations for months.

According to Multicare, Premera has reimbursed Multicare well below the rate of inflation.

In a recent statement, Premera said they are willing to help stabilize Multicare, but they need to ensure their members can still access affordable care.

If no agreement is made, all Multicare hospitals, doctors and facilities will be considered out-of-network for Premera policyholders starting June 1.
