    Road safety tips during Motorcycle and Bicycle Safety Month

    SPOKANE, Wash. -- May is Motorcycle and Bicycle Safety Awareness Month, so Washington State Patrol shared important updates and tips on road safety.

    With the weather warming, WSP said the number of drivers, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians is increasing and people should stay alert.

    "Not only are you responsible for your safety every time you get behind the wheel, but you're also responsible for the safety of everyone else on the road," wrote WSP in a recent Facebook post.

    According to WSP, so far in 2024, Washington has had:

    • 3,760 impaired driver arrests
    • 8,932 seatbelt violations
    • 10,602 distracted drivers
    • 38,156 aggressive drivers
    • 10,427 collision investigations
    • 61 fatal collisions

    To stay safe, WSP said it is important to always check your blind spots, use your mirrors, pay attention and share the road.
