How to prepare ahead of Bloomsday and Expo '74 celebrations

SPOKANE, Wash. — Opening celebrations for Expo's '74 50th begin this Saturday in Spokane.

This nine-week celebration also comes during the Bloomsday race.

"I don't think we could have had a Bloomsday run without an Expo '74 because of the changes that it created in the downtown area," said Don Kardong, Bloomsday founder.

To prepare for the influx of customers, O'Doherty's has increased their staff.

"We're right a the end of the race, are expecting we're ready for you and we'll get you some refreshing drinks after," said Lily O'Doherty, assistant manager of O'Doherty's Irish Grille.

Participants are also exited to see the transformation Spokane undergoes in preparing for Bloomsday.

"All the live bands that are doing the music as you're running by and all the people cheering you on and supporting you, it's a really cool event," said Betsy McMillan who plans to run on Bloomsday.

Organizers of the even are also reminding people to pack accordingly.

"There is a clear bag policy. So if you are going into your corral, make sure you have a clear bag. Only or else you will be turned away for safety reasons," said board member Stefanie Webb.

We're here to make parking and navigating downtown a little easier if planning to attend Bloomsday.
