    Wilson Elementary school principal resigns

SPOKANE, Wash. - Wilson Elementary School principal Christina Admire has resigned, according to Spokane Public Schools.

This comes after recent backlash for insensitive language in a weekly newsletter that was received by parents, staff and members of the school's community.

The newsletter that was sent out on March 1 asked parents to dress their students up as "slaves and hobos" for a music program event.

Admire released a statement to parents last month that said in part:

"Over the past few months, my family and I have been navigating challenges that have placed us under considerable strain. The publicity surrounding these challenges has not only affected me personally, but has also begun to impact my ability to serve as your principal with the undivided attention and energy that this role rightfully demands.

After careful consideration and discussions with my family and district leadership, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my position as Principal of Wilson Elementary."

SPS said Shannon Lawson is a Principal on Special Assignment for the school.
