SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – An additional reward has been announced by the Spartanburg Police Department for help in solving a 2015 homicide cold case.

The homicide of Markeith Tracy has yet to be solved, but officers said it could be, if people would speak up.

“In this particular case, it happened in 2015 and its been awhile, but we know there were people on the scene who were there who witnessed it and have information,” said Major Art Littlejohn, Spartanburg Police.

That’s why the reward for information has been increased to $15,000, in hopes of bringing peace to the Tracy family.

“He was the best child ever and he was taken from us in the worst way,” said Donna Tracy, the mother of Markeith Tracy.

Markeith Tracy was 23 years old when he was shot and killed on Carlisle street.

A son, brother, and brand new father at the time of his death, Tracy’s family said he was loved by many. They hope, nine years later, the community can help bring justice.

“Your silence is a form of betrayal, if you don’t say anything and you know something, it’s still a sign of betrayal,” said Donna Tracy.

She said since that day in October, it’s been her life goal to find the person responsible for Markeith’s death.

“My son needs justice, he needs to be able to rest in peace,” said Donna Tracy. “I’m really hoping this will perhaps encourage someone to come forth with any information they have because my son needs his justice.”

The Spartanburg Police Department has been working alongside Donna, to solve the case. They said new tools and resources give them hope that an answer could come soon.

“The great thing is technology continues to change and as we get new technology, we are able to do things we weren’t able to do in 2015 and so we’re hoping any new piece of information we get we can use with the new technology we have and possibly solve this case,” said Littlejohn.

If you have any information about this case, you’re asked to call the Spartanburg Police Department or Crime-Stoppers at 1-888-crime-sc. You can remain anonymous.
