Spartanburg’s Spring Fling returns this weekend, what to know before you go

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – It might be the start of the work week but one Upstate city is getting ready for the weekend.

Thousands of people will head to downtown Spartanburg for the city’s annual Spring Fling event this weekend.

“Even if you are doing something you should cancel it and come to the Spring Fling,” Aundi Hunter, the City of Spartanburg Special Event Manger said.

Preparing for the city’s largest event takes a lot of preparation.

“This is the week of all the crazy logistics. We have to go out, mark the streets, make sure all the shirts are in order, get the tents, its craziness…it is a lot…a lot of fun,” Hunter said.

The three day event will include live entertainment, shopping and food.

“We will have a family fun zone which will feature different vendors that will be able to play with the kids, different activities, everyone’s favorite food court featuring 30 tasty vendors that we will have, multiple spaces with live entertainment, rides and so much more.”

While many Spring Fling favorites are returning, there are some changes.

“The newest thing about this year is our new footprint that we have going on,” Hunter said. “We’re still in the downtown location but we will be located between Church Street and Daniel Morgan Avenue so kind of around the clock tower area.”

The city said in previous years the event brought in more than 100,000 people to downtown Spartanburg over the three day period and it’s that foot traffic that excites nearby businesses like The Local Hiker.

“We’re going to be open the whole time, we are actually going to be open this Sunday as well to serve some of our Sunday guests,” Tanner Mclean, the bar manger at the Local Hiker said. “Spring Fling is a great opportunity for us to bring new people into the store and for people to figure out what were all about.”

Mclean said he been getting the bar ready for the weekend, “I have a bunch of new beers new food and new gear that we are putting out for the weekend so we are very exited to showcase what we brought in.”

No matter if you’re coming to shop, eat or socialize the city says there is one thing that’s guaranteed.

“What you do know is everyone has smiles on their faces why because they are having a grand old time,” Hunter said.

Spring Fling kicks off Friday at 5pm and ends on Sunday at 6pm.
