    Sparta Boys Lax Win 8 Straight, Taking the Gaels on Thursday

    SPARTA, NJ – Sparta’s boys lacrosse added another win beating Roxbury 12-9 on Thursday.  Sparta is the top seed in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament with a bye for the first and second rounds.   They will host the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 4.

    The Spartans came out to win netting four in the first quarter, while the defense held the Gaels scoreless.  Both teams added five before the halftime whistle. Sparta put up three more in the third frame to Roxbury’s two. There were no goals in the fourth quarter leaving Sparta with the W.

    Adam Texeira had six goals and won 11 of 19 faceoffs.

    Eddie Brown added four with five assists.  Matt Ciarelli put up four and Marco Aquino scored two with an assist.

    Hunter Takacs, Greg Peters and Michael Pandiscia each got one past the Gaels’ goalie. Pandiscia had four assists. Takacs, Aquino and Luke Spelman were each credited with an assist.

    Parker Hein was in net for the Sparta win with 13 stops.

    The seniors were honored at halftime.

    With a record at 8-1, the boys play at Blair Academy on Saturday.
