On May 24, 2023, plainclothes officers from the San Francisco Police Department were conducting a catalytic converter abatement operation in the western neighborhoods of the city. While in the area, they received a report of a catalytic converter theft on Alemany Boulevard. The officers spotted a black 4-door sedan that had been reported stolen and followed it throughout the city before initiating a traffic stop on Edinburgh Street and Persia Avenue.
