PORTSMOUTH — Residents offered a number of ideas about what to do — and what not to do — as the city considers making changes to its iconic Market Square. Driving change: York commits to Route 1 traffic study to curb speeding, accidents
YORK, Maine — A study of Route 1 will take place this year to guide future improvements of one of York’s most bustling roads. The town is collaborating with the Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission (SMPDC), the Kittery Area Comprehensive Transportation System (KACTS) and the Maine Department of Transportation on the study of Route 1. The study is expected to take place over the course of a year and will examine the stretch of Route 1 from the Kittery border up to Mountain Road.

ROCHESTER — The city's initial fiscal year 2025 budget proposal of $162.2 million represents a decrease of $6.6 million-plus from the previous year. If the proposal of precisely $162,216,791 is approved with no changes, it would be 3.92% or $6,621,498 less than the approved 2024 budget appropriation of $168,838,289, according to City Manager Katie Ambrose.
