Pro Portsmouth unveils the 2024 Children’s Day Logo

PORTSMOUTH —This year’s Children’s Day logo celebrates spring.

Created by Rye student, Vesper Reed, the 2024 logo features a cheerful rose and rainbow. The logo artwork will be featured on the Volunteer T-shirts, the Children’s Day map, social media, and the Pro Portsmouth website.

The event, which takes place on Sunday, May 5, from noon to 4 p.m., kicks off at the Block Party performance area on Pleasant Street. Using the activity map and legend, families follow the alphabet all over downtown where they can enjoy a variety of crafts, games, and interactive activities.

Entertainment takes place at the Block Party on Pleasant. This year’s schedule of performers includes Musical Fun with Steve Blunt & Marty Kelley (12:15 to 1:15 p.m.), Bryson Lang, Juggler Extraordinaire! (1:30 to 2:30 p.m.), and the Seacoast Civic Dance Company (3 to 3:45 p.m.).

Support For Children’s Day comes from Mass General Brigham/Wentworth Douglass Hospital, Ocean Properties, and Xfinity as well as event sponsors Treehouse Toys, G.Willikers, alpha graphics, ad cetera, Blue Dolphin and   shareholders Hearth Market , Izzy’s , Kilwin’s , Kiwanis Club of the Seacoast , Moffatt-Ladd House & Garden , and Temple Israel .

Seacoast Science Center Rescue Run 5k race results

RYE – Seven hundred and fifty-four runners and walkers hit the trails of Odiorne Point State Park for the Seacoast Science Center’s Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals on Saturday, April 20, presented by Meredith Village Savings Bank. The scenic route brought them through the forest, by the rocky shore, on the sandy beach, and over the hills of military fortifications in the park.

Overall race winner, Luke Janik, 27, of Hampton Falls crossed the finish line with a time of 18:23. Lucy Garfield, 33, of Madbury, was female overall winner with a time of 22:11.

Female age group top winners were Selby Sullivan, 24:07 (12 and under); Ashleigh MacEachern, 25:21 (13-19), Kelsey Cole, 26:24 (20-29); Kelly Goodwin, 23:53 (30-39); Margaret Ackley, 24:03 (40-49); Lisa Melanson, 29:37 (50-59); Maura Szendev, 30:49 (60-69); Helen Mrose, 37:33 (70-plus).

Male age group top winners were Chris Herd, 22:33 (12 and under); Nathan Dillon, 20:54 (13-19); Kyle Puleo, 21:16 (20-29); Joe Chase, 19:50 (30-39); Mike Guarascio, 20:28 (40-49), Mark  Zvtkovicz, 26:20 (50-59); Luis Guijarro, 27:58 (60+); and Robert Beau Beaulac, 29:49.

27th annual Cisco Brewers Portsmouth 5K is back

PORTSMOUTH — Registration is filling up for the 27th annual Cisco Brewers Portsmouth 5K on May 26. Located at Cisco Brewers Portsmouth on Pease in Portsmouth, N.H., the race starts at 11 a.m. on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, and attracts over a thousand runners/walkers, as well as a hearty crew of future racers for the kids’ fun run at 10:15 a.m. The race is part of the Seacoast Road Race Series and the course, adjusted for 2024 road works, is still USATF Certified, flat and fast: great for runner’s intent on setting their personal record.

All participants receive a barbecue lunch and drinks catered by Cisco Brewers Portsmouth, along with live music, kids’ activities and more.

Since 2004, this popular race/walk has benefited KBIC, the David Krempels Brain Injury Center, a local nonprofit whose mission is to improve the quality of life of people living with brain injury.

A Monarch Morning community open house

ROCHESTER — On Saturday May 4, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., the Monarch School of New England is hosting A Monarch Morning, a community open house specifically for special education and related professionals.

If you are currently, or soon will be, a special education teacher, paraeducator, nurse (RN/LPN), occupational therapist/assistant, physical therapist/assistant, speech-language pathologist/assistant, school psychologist, or other education-related professional, Monarch School of New England wants to meet you.

This “meet and greet” event will take place at the high school/vocational center campus. Light refreshments will be served, and raffle prizes will be offered. Information:: 603-332-2848.
