Adams coach fired after student text allegations but can still teach

South Bend Community Schools say they’ve fired the Adams High football coach suspected of inappropriate texts with students, but he can stay on as a teacher. The corporation released a statement Wednesday saying they’ve finished their investigation and found “insufficient evidence to establish that Mr. Karczewski sent photographs or messages to the students involved.”

Predicting South Bend area IHSAA, MHSAA football sectional, district championships

The time has finally come for football trophies to be hoisted. Seven South Bend Tribune coverage area teams will compete for IHSAA or MHSAA sectional or district championships Friday, Nov. 6. Only four teams can win, including one squad that resides outside of the coverage area. The Tribune coverage area is guaranteed three champions, due to three of the four championship games being head-to-head coverage area matchups, which means three squads are also guaranteed to have their seasons ended Friday night. The lone St. Joseph County team remaining is IHSAA Class 6A No. 6 Penn (10-0), which hosts Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) rival Elkhart (7-3). The other conference rematch will be in Nappanee, as NorthWood (7-4) hosts Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) foe 4A No. 6 Northridge (11-0). The final Tribune area IHSAA sectional is in Dunlap, as Concord (5-5) welcomes LaPorte (3-7). The lone MHSAA game is between Division 4 No. 5 Edwardsburg (10-0) hosting No. 6 Portland (10-0) at 7 p.m.

Those numbers equaled a 21-0 lead for Penn Friday night in less than the first six minutes of a dominating sectional title game win. The Kingsmen did whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted to roll past Elkhart 48-7 to claim the program's 28th sectional championship at cold and wet Freed Field. Way back in August, the Warsaw and Fort Wayne Snider football teams met in the season opener. The Panthers controlled the game for a majority of the contest, but it was a fourth-quarter comeback by the Tigers that gave the game its final result. Fast forward three months later, and the two teams met again at Fisher Field with a sectional championship on the line. With Snider 44-7 all-time in same-season rematches, Warsaw was able to buck the trend with yet another comeback in the final 12 minutes to capture a 14-3 win, as well as the third sectional title in school history.
