RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Human remains have been identified as a missing person from Randolph County.

The sheriff’s office said on Sunday, they received a call about human remains in the Plainfield Road area of Sophia. Deputies responded and, after investigating, determined that the remains belonged to Jonathan “Michael” Holmes.

Holmes had been missing since mid-April when he began “acting abnormally” and got out of a vehicle he was in near the Cedar Square exit of US 74. He left the car with a gun and deputies said they believed he may have been “suffering from a cognitive impairment and acting abnormally.”

His remains will be sent to the medical examiner for an autopsy.
